Blue Flag with Green Pennant recognition for Jachthaven Biesbosch

We are very proud that Jachthaven Biesbosch may hoist the Blue Flag for the 19th time.

The tendency to take a sustainable approach to tourism and leisure continues to grow. Several Dutch marinas are striving to go beyond what the international Blue Flag standard requires. They are focusing on integrating corporate social responsibility into their operational activities. This vanguard of marinas has now grown to a group of 30, each awarded a Green Pennant. Jachthaven Biesbosch is part of this progressive group and it is our pleasure to announce that we have been awarded the Green Pennant again this year.

Blue Flag

Every year, the Stichting Keurmerk Milieu, Veiligheid en Kwaliteit (KMVK) awards the Blue Flag as part of a Dutch campaign aimed at engaging local governments, businesses and the public in maintaining clean and safe waters, natural beauty, a healthy environment and sustainable maritime facilities. The Blue Flag is internationally known as a symbol of quality, recognizing clean beaches and marinas with good water quality and safety standards.

On May 16, 2024, Hans Oosters, Commissioner of the King of the Province of Utrecht, presented the awards at Marnemoende Marina in IJsselstein, including the Blue Flag for Marina Biesbosch in Drimmelen.

Long relationship with Blue Flag

Beaches and marinas voluntarily apply for the Blue Flag, which means they must meet strict criteria such as clean bathing water, adequate sanitary facilities and high safety standards. Obtaining the Blue Flag recognizes the efforts of communities and managers in these areas. The flag is valid for one year and sites are checked annually to see if they still meet the standards.

Maarten Voskuil of Jachthaven Biesbosch is proud of the Blue Flag: "The Blue Flag is now integrated in our marina and among our employees. It not only stimulates the preservation and protection of our natural environment but also provides a valuable guarantee for visitors. Our visitors can rely on a clean and safe environment in which nature and sustainability are central. In our eyes an essential component for a positive and responsible marina experience."

10 years Green Pennant Front Runners

Among the Blue Flag marinas, 30 have been awarded the Green Pennant; additional recognition for business owners who stand out for their commitment to sustainability. These marinas are taking extra steps in the area of environmental management and sustainability initiatives, contributing to a cleaner and greener future for our wetland environment. Jachthaven Biesbosch may also hoist this Green Pennant in 2024.
